Donegal Golf Special
Donegal Golf Special
Donegal was named the "Coolest place to visit in the world in 2017" by National Geographic. Golfers who have visited this unique county will not be surprised. Not only are there some of the finest links courses in this rural region, there are also clear fairways for most of the year.
One of the best-kept secrets in world golf may not remain so for much longer, thanks to the increasing popularity of the Wild Atlantic Way. Three superb links, four nights at the lakeside Harvey's Point Hotel, a bottle of Jameson, and the kind of space and silence that the south-west crowds can't match. Our advice: rush!

Day by Day
A suggested flow for your trip. Every day is flexible — extend, shorten, or swap any element based on your preferences.
Welcome to Donegal
Arrive at Dublin or Donegal Airport, collect your rental car, and drive to Harvey's Point Hotel on the shores of Lough Eske (approx. 3.5 hours from Dublin, 30 minutes from Donegal Airport). This family-run hotel — voted Ireland's favourite multiple times — sits in one of the most peaceful settings in the country. Dinner at the Lakeside Restaurant.
The Muirfield of Ireland
A 15-minute drive to Donegal Golf Club at Murvagh — described as "the Muirfield of Ireland." Eddie Hackett's original design, enhanced by Pat Ruddy, weaves through towering dunes with views across Donegal Bay to the Blue Stack Mountains. At Par 73 and 7,200 yards, it's a serious test. Afternoon free to visit Donegal Castle (15th century).
One of Ireland's Founding Links
Drive north to Portsalon on the Fanad Peninsula (approx. 1.5 hours of stunning coastal scenery). Established in 1891, Portsalon is one of nine founding members of the Golfing Union of Ireland — the oldest golfing union in the world. The 2nd hole was voted the best golf hole in Ireland. Return to Harvey's Point.
Wild Atlantic Links
Drive west to Narin & Portnoo (approx. 45 minutes). A classic seaside links opened in 1930 — engagingly old-fashioned with a meandering routing through natural dune formations on the Wild Atlantic Way. Wildflowers, empty beaches, and the sense that you've found golf's last unspoiled corner. Farewell dinner at Harvey's Point tonight.
