Club de Golf Valderrama
Valderrama is continental Europe's greatest golf course — a cork oak forest parkland on the hills above Sotogrande that has hosted more top-level professional golf than any other course in Europe. From the Volvo Masters to the Ryder Cup, the world's best players have been tested and humbled by its narrow fairways, glass-fast greens, and the infamous 17th.
Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed the course, but it was the meticulous stewardship of Jaime Ortiz-Patiño that transformed it into a world-class venue. Every tree, every bunker, and every blade of grass is maintained to a standard that approaches the obsessive. Playing Valderrama is to understand what golf architecture can achieve when executed with absolute precision.
Course Highlights
Europe's only Ryder Cup venue outside the British Isles — Seve Ballesteros led Europe to victory here in the most emotional Ryder Cup of the modern era.
A par-5 with a lake-fronted, volcano-shaped green that has destroyed Ryder Cup scores and tournament leaderboards for decades.
The Alcornocales forest provides a stunning natural canvas — ancient trees framing every shot with grandeur.
The European Tour's season-ending event called Valderrama home for 15 years — every shot of consequence has been struck here.
