Simola Golf & Country Estate
Jack Nicklaus's South African masterpiece is a mountain course of extraordinary drama — set 300 metres above Knysna on a private estate with views of the lagoon, the Heads, the Indian Ocean, and the Garden Route forest in every direction. The elevation changes are the most extreme of any South African golf course, with some holes dropping 80 metres from tee to green.
Simola was carved from the Knysna hillside using the least possible disturbance to the indigenous vegetation, and the result is a course that sits within its landscape as naturally as if it had always been there. Nicklaus's trademark risk-reward strategy is everywhere.
Course Highlights
The highest course on the Garden Route — views of Knysna Lagoon, the Heads, the ocean, and the forest simultaneously.
The Golden Bear's only South African course — his most dramatic use of elevation change in any design worldwide.
Some holes descend 80 metres from tee to landing zone — a driving experience unlike any other in African golf.
The Knysna yellowwood forest wraps around the course — listed as a National Monument and visible from every hole.
