Royal Troon Golf Club
Royal Troon is the quintessential Ayrshire links — a classic out-and-back routing along the shore of the Firth of Clyde with the prevailing wind at your back on the outward nine and firmly in your face coming home. The course is famous for two contrasting holes: the Postage Stamp 8th, a tiny par 3 of 123 yards that has humbled the world's best, and the Railway 11th, at 481 yards upwind one of the most demanding par 4s in championship golf.
Royal Troon has hosted The Open Championship nine times, with champions including Tom Watson, Tom Weiskopf, and Henrik Stenson. The combination of the historic links, the dramatic weather, and the challenging final holes makes every round here feel like a genuine championship experience.
Course Highlights
The 8th hole's tiny 123-yard par 3 is one of the most famous and diabolical holes in golf — perfection or disaster in one shot.
One of the most storied venues on the Open rota, producing champions from Walter Hagen to Henrik Stenson in 2016.
The traditional Scottish links structure — wind with you going out, wind against you coming home — at its most punishing and pure.
The 11th — 481 yards into the prevailing wind — is consistently rated one of the hardest par 4s in championship golf.
