Royal Portrush (Dunluce Links)
Royal Portrush is Northern Ireland's crown jewel of links golf and the only Irish venue to have hosted the Open Championship. Its Dunluce Links course sweeps along the Antrim coast with views to the Giant's Causeway, Rathlin Island, and on clear days, the coast of Scotland โ a reminder that this is an ancient crossroads of civilisation.
Harry Colt's redesign in the 1920s produced a links of genuine championship quality, with holes that constantly vary in character and demand. The 14th, Calamity Corner, is one of the most feared par-3s in links golf โ a long iron or fairway wood across a chasm to a narrow shelf of green with out-of-bounds behind.
Course Highlights
Royal Portrush hosted the 1951 Open and returned in 2019 โ the first time the Open came to Ireland in 68 years.
The 14th hole demands a long, accurate shot across a ravine to a narrow green โ one of the most nerve-wracking par-3s in world golf.
Sweeping views of the Giant's Causeway, White Rocks beach, and the Scottish coast make this one of the most scenic links anywhere.
Colt's 1929 redesign is considered among his finest work โ a course that rewards precision over power throughout.
