Royal Aberdeen Golf Club (Balgownie)
Royal Aberdeen Golf Club — established in 1780 — is the sixth oldest golf club in the world, and its Championship Balgownie Links is among Scotland's finest natural links. The course plays along the Bay of Nigg on the north bank of the Don estuary, with rolling duneland fairways, well-placed bunkers, and greens that demand local knowledge to read correctly.
The outward nine plays along the shore with stunning sea views; the inward nine returns through higher dunes with the course opening up to sweeping Aberdeenshire views. Having hosted the Senior Open Championship and European Tour events, Balgownie consistently earns its place in Scotland's top 15 courses. The historic clubhouse, founded in 1780, adds a layer of gravitas that even the most seasoned golf traveller finds moving.
Course Highlights
The sixth oldest golf club in the world — a lineage that puts Royal Aberdeen in the very first rank of golf's historic institutions.
The classic links routing along the Bay of Nigg delivers sea views on the outward nine and dramatic dune scenery on the return.
Royal Aberdeen has hosted major championship golf at European Tour level — the same fairways walked by the world's best.
Unlike the heavily visited St Andrews courses, Royal Aberdeen retains an unhurried, members'-club atmosphere that is increasingly hard to find.
