Perched majestically on the rolling Kerry hillside between the Caha Mountains and the McGillycuddy Reeks, the Ring of Kerry Golf Club commands panoramic views across Kenmare Bay and the vast Atlantic beyond. This was one of the final design projects of the great Eddie Hackett, Ireland's most prolific and admired golf course architect, with further refinements by Ron Kirby, formerly of Jack Nicklaus Design.
The course is a distinctive blend of heathland and parkland, built on a sand base that ensures excellent year-round playing conditions and firm, fast greens. The lower holes near the coast introduce elements of links golf, while the upper reaches above the clubhouse reveal the finest qualities of Irish heathland — rolling terrain carpeted in indigenous flora and alive with local wildlife. The signature 6th hole, known as Ladies View, features an elevated tee shot that may well be the most breathtaking in Ireland, overlooking the sweep of Kenmare Bay with water guarding the right and a stream to the left. Owned and managed by Sheen Falls Lodge, the club offers a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere that belies its championship credentials.
Course Highlights
A short par 4 played from a dramatically elevated tee with a tee shot overlooking the entirety of Kenmare Bay — widely considered one of the most breathtaking opening drives in Irish golf.
Visionary in its construction, the course was the final major project of Eddie Hackett, one of Ireland's greatest golf course architects, further refined by Ron Kirby to create some of the finest putting surfaces in the country.
