Machrihanish Dunes Golf Club is one of Scotland's most celebrated modern links — created by David McLay Kidd on a site so ecologically sensitive that only 16 pieces of machinery were permitted during construction. The result is a course that appears entirely natural, as if the land itself decided where the holes should go. Set on the Kintyre Peninsula at the end of Scotland's longest cul-de-sac, the course is genuinely remote — and all the better for it.
The dunes at Machrihanish are spectacular in their scale, and the course uses them with great intelligence. Several holes play from the tops of massive sand formations, offering views across the Mull of Kintyre and out to Ireland. Paired with the historic Machrihanish Golf Club (established 1876) and the Ugadale Hotel, this remote Kintyre cluster delivers one of Scotland's most unique golf experiences.
