Lahinch Golf Club (Old Course)

Lahinch is the links that grew up in the wild west of Ireland, on the surf-battered Clare coastline near the Cliffs of Moher. Its Old Course is a wonderfully natural links where massive dunes dictate routing, and two of the most quirky and beloved holes in golf โ€” the Klondike and the Dell โ€” have been confounding visitors for over a century.

Alister MacKenzie worked on the course in the 1920s, though he reportedly complained that its most famous holes defied all architectural logic. He was right, but they are also unforgettable. Lahinch Golf Club is a living, breathing piece of Irish golf culture โ€” and the village's pub-lined main street is just as important as the course itself.

Course Highlights

The Dell
A completely blind par-3 over a massive dune to a hidden green โ€” you aim at a white stone marker and trust your yardage. Nowhere else in golf.
The Klondike
A blind par-5 that crests a mountain-sized dune. Find the white stone, pick your line, and commit โ€” the green you cannot see awaits.
MacKenzie Redesign
Alister MacKenzie touched the course in the 1920s, though he could never quite rationalise its most eccentric holes.
Wild Atlantic Location
Located near the Cliffs of Moher on the Clare coastline, surrounded by surf beaches and one of Ireland's most celebrated pub villages.
