Mahony's Point at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club occupies what Henry Longhurst himself described as a setting where only a person devoid of a soul could focus purely on golf. Nestled within the spectacular landscape of Killarney National Park on the shores of Lough Leane, with the McGillycuddy Reeks rising in the distance, this is parkland golf elevated to something approaching the spiritual.
Originally designed by Sir Guy Campbell and Henry Longhurst and opened for play in 1939, the course has matured into a beautifully balanced test that rewards thoughtful shot-making over brute force. The final three holes are among the most celebrated closing stretches in Irish golf, culminating in the famous 18th — a par 3 played across the corner of the lake with the mountains reflected in the water beyond, a view so sublime it has earned the name Heaven's Reflex. Killarney has hosted the Irish Open on multiple occasions and the Curtis Cup in 1996, yet it remains as welcoming to the visiting golfer as it is challenging to the professional.
