The European Club
The European Club
Pat Ruddy's life work, The European Club is a privately owned links on the Wicklow coast that has become one of Ireland's most celebrated and talked-about courses. Ruddy — journalist turned architect turned obsessive — spent decades creating a course of 20 holes (you play 18 but there are two alternates) that has drawn comparison to the great Scottish links.
The course runs through towering dunes with the Irish Sea always present, and Ruddy's detailed, feature-rich design makes every hole a puzzle to solve. Located south of Dublin, it is one of the most accessible serious links in the country — and one of the most rewarding.
Course Highlights
Ruddy built two alternate holes so the course can be played in different configurations — a genuinely unique feature in world golf.
The self-taught, self-funded architect poured decades of passion into every contour of this course — it shows in every hole.
Towering dune ridges, heathland rough, and the Irish Sea create a natural drama that rivals any links in Ireland.
Just 45 minutes south of Dublin — the most accessible top-50 links in Ireland, with no expensive travel logistics required.
