County Louth Golf Club (Baltray)
Known simply as Baltray, County Louth Golf Club is one of Ireland's great hidden gems — a Tom Simpson links on the Boyne Estuary that has somehow stayed under the radar while its neighbours have collected the headlines. The course is raw, natural, and beautifully old-fashioned, with Simpson's elegant routing making full use of the duneland between the estuary and the Irish Sea.
The 14th is considered by many to be the finest par-5 in Ireland — a sweeping dogleg through the dunes that requires three perfectly struck shots. Baltray rewards course management over power, and the warm welcome from a traditional members' club makes the entire experience memorable.
Course Highlights
The British architect's fingerprints are everywhere — flowing fairways, subtle green complexes, and a routing that feels inevitable.
A sweeping dogleg through towering dunes that demands three quality shots and repays them with one of Ireland's most satisfying pars.
The course wraps around the mouth of the River Boyne, with views across the estuary to the Cooley Mountains in the distance.
A traditional club atmosphere with genuine Irish hospitality — no corporate gloss, just great golf and great craic.
